چکیده

The glass-forming ability (GFA), thermal stability and mechanical properties of bulk glassy Pd79Cu6 xAuxSi10P5 (x 1⁄4 0{6 at%) alloys were studied. The results revealed that the minor substitution of Au for Cu strongly affects the thermal stability and GFA of Pd–Cu–Au–Si–P alloys. The alloy in which 2 at% Au was added to substitute Cu (Pd79Cu4Au2Si10P5) exhibits the broadest supercooled liquid region ( Tx 1⁄4 80K) and possesses the highest GFA among the alloys investigated. The critical diameter for glass formation of this alloy reaches 7mm by copper mold casting. The GFA is dramatically reduced when the Au content is more than 5 at%, beyond which no bulk glasses could be formed. The Young’s modulus, yield strength and maximum compressive strength of the best glass former (Pd79Cu4Au2Si10P5) are 87GPa, 1525MPa and 1660MPa, respectively, with a compressive plastic strain over 13%.

On the Fragility of Bulk Metallic Glass Forming Liquids

In contrast to pure metals and most non-glass forming alloys, metallic glass-formers are moderately strong liquids in terms of fragility. The notion of fragility of an undercooling liquid reflects the sensitivity of the viscosity of the liquid to temperature changes and describes the degree of departure of the liquid kinetics from the Arrhenius equation. In general, the fragility of metallic gl...

Development of casting investment preventing blackening of noble metal alloys part 1. Application of developed investment for Ag-Pd-Cu-Au alloy.

The objective of this study is to develop a casting investment that prevents the blackening of the cast surface of noble metal alloys. The experimental investments were prepared using a gypsum-bonded investment in which the metallic powders such as boron (B), silicon (Si), aluminum (Al) and titanium (Ti) were added as oxidizing agents. An Ag-Pd-Cu-Au alloy was cast into the mold made of the pre...

Alloy Oxidation and Porcelain Fused to Alloy Interaction in Noble Alloy Systems

The oxidation and porcelain fusion characteristics of noble alloys containing a variety of minor oxidizable elements, including Cu, Sn, In, Ga, Mn, and Fe were investigated. Four porcelain alloys systems: a Pd-base alloy (Naturelle}, two Pd-Ag-based alloys (Jelstar and Acclaim}, and a high Au-alloy (SMG-3) were examined by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy after be...

Effects of Current Stressing on the Grain Structure and Mechanical Properties of Ag-Alloy Bonding Wires with Various Pd and Au Contents

Ag-alloy bonding wires containing various Pd and Au elements and traditional 4 N Au and Pd-coated 4 N Cu bonding wires were stressed with a current density of 1.23 ˆ 105 A/cm2 in air. The amounts of annealing twins in the Ag-alloy wires were much higher than those in Au and Pd-coated Cu wires. The percentages of twinned grains in these Ag-alloy wires increased obviously with current stressing. ...
